Well, if you have the facility then you can use the FD for the leaves for a better quality products. However, hot-air drying is not bad for leaves. What's your ultimate goal with the leaves? If you want to extract bioactive compounds, hot-air drying can be used. Only thing you dry about 50C. All the best.
The choice of drying mehod depends on what you want to do with further. Generall, when the plant parts were considered to be dried, the must recommended drying mehod is the freeze-drying because it preserves better the chemicals of plant especially the most sensible ones like the antioxidants. Generally, there is no need to use two drying methods together. For removing more water form the plant parts, you can either prepare small pieces of plant part or/and increase the time of drying.
