Families believe in some age old values and concepts that need to be rethought and may be updated. In such a situation can education and awareness change those old concepts?
Of course, although there is no guarantee. If you are looking for a direction to be more specific, try checking keywords like non-formal education, especially anti-bias training, betzavta method. Probably you will find a lot for youth (I assume).
In my understanding, education is used to keep good customs and traditions. These are integrated in one of the subjects in the primary grades. Even those that no longer exist, children are taught that these were the situations before. We were taught then that these were the characteristics of our forefathers and that is our true identity. So to keep our real identity is to continue or keep those values and traditions.
That is an interesting area...a true critical reflector brings about a change in behaviour or belief and as reflective practices are not necessary inherent, they can be taught, thus, education may change inherent values and beliefs.
