After conducting transduction, VITEK 2 was used for AST to compare the wild-type recipient and transductant. Looking at the results, the original wild-type recipient exhibited a higher MIC for ampicillin compared to the transductant. Could the transductant's reduced resistance to the antibiotic suggest that the bacteriophage modified its resistance gene?

While it is possible that something happened during the transduction, those values are not really that different. It could just be experimental variation. If you are concerned then I would first repeat the VITEK on duplicate cultures of each to be sure it is real.
