The claim, if I understand it correctly, is that if you have an  electron at a speed of >70% of the speed of light and reverse the polarity of the electric field fast enough, you will bump it above the speed of light.

To get that energy, you need an accelerating voltage of about 200kV which is not that hard to get. What I didn't understand from your paper was how fast you would need to switch polarity. I would assume that you would need to do it in the time it takes the electron to travel a distance comparable to it's wavelength (about 2.5pm)

With a good HV switch, you could get about a 1000 V/microsecond slew rate. By the time you switch from +200kV to -200kV the electron would be 80km away so this would obviously not be fast enough.

In any case you would be dumping an enormous amount of energy into this experiment so I don't think you would actually be able to tell if anything happened beyond standard physics.

Thanks for answering and yes your understanding is perfect. You are 100% correct that a reversal of electric field done as step function by a switch at 1KV/microsecond OR if needed 100KV/microsecond will need a dissipation of extreme high stored energy. For this experiment to be successful, the field has to be changed by a linear means, which is by storing it in a inductor or capacitor and then pumping it back to reverse the field. The point where the field reverses needs to be at the zero crossing of a smooth function. The push beyond C will simply occur if the field enables the electron to start reducing the potential energy without changing the momentum even if the field at that point is not high.

So the field pushing the electron beyond C must not be a step function but a smooth sinusoidal function, which reverses the polarity of the field when the electron reaches at least  70% of speed of light. I conjecture that (cannot write in the paper as I do not a detailed rigor of it) as soon as we reverse the field, the energy released by the change from positive mass energy to negative mass energy will causes cooling energy to be released and electric field generating mechanism will cool down.

A more complex phenomena with similar theory can be achieved in a small size in silicon but I do not have right equipment to do it. It will also be hard to prove it in silicon.

I have another thought experiment that may be easier to realize experimentally:

suppose we take the same 0.7c electron and smack it into a block of metal (say tungsten). Due to the interactions with the atomic electron fields, the electron will decelerate and stop after about 45 microns, releasing a lot of energy as photons.

This is exactly how a standard medical x-ray tube works and there is a lot of literature on the spectrum of photons emitted, which is also very easy to measure.

Could your conjecture say anything about the energy spectrum of the photons?

Hi Guy, Do you think that the process mentioned by you actually results in push beyond C and then fall back -- which results in release of high power photons? In case there is a gap between existing theoretical explanation and observation, I will be more than happy to check it out and collaborate with you on that. Can you point me to something on that?

I don't know, I do not understand your formalism enough to comment on that.

 I do believe however that the bremsstrahlung radiation generated in X-ray tubes  is pretty well understood. See for example The paper by Bethe and Heitler linked below.

Yes it seems to pretty well understood as fast positive electron (is it equivalent to a positron?). However in my proposed experiment if we can do it using a sine wave/any smooth function field with positive part of wave form enough to push particle beyond 0.7C, we should clearly see the electron above the speed of light (It may look like a creation of an extra electron positron pair). But since the electron (behaving as a positron above C) is indeed moving at a speed faster than light, we should see it reaching a well defined destination faster than light. It will be a little complicated because sine Electric field will create EM wave but I think we can still observe it as a trace of a disturbance reaching a well defined point faster than light. 

Doing this experiment has either of the 2 effects:

A) This will be a landmark discovery/generation of Tachyons in lab setup and I expect it to unlock a lot more than that. We will probably need to do many iterations to reach the correct experiment

OR

B) Non push of electrons above the speed of light using it will not only invalidate my paper but Hill & Cox (2012) and numerous other papers of formalism of particles above the speed of light. It may formally prove to a extent that the speed of light is maximum.

Either way it will be a very important experiment and discovery. I have tried some sort of miniature experiment using silicon devices but my lab is not good enough to say anything authoritatively because EM waves can even leak from end points of probe of oscilloscope.

The reverse field after 0.7c will either decelerate or would it push it above speed of light depending on which one of them leads to potential energy decrease in space. I think smashing of electrons to tungsten WILL NOT lead to this because beyond the distance of 50 micro meters, the reversal of path will still lead to the increase of potential energy as the electric field opposes the charge. It is important to note that any static configuration of fields will not lead to push of particles beyond light because if the particle is above 0.7c and crosses the spatial boundary of reversal of electric field a reversal of direction will mean that it again crosses the boundary of electric field and goes against the field thus increasing the potential energy. So the path will not be best potential energy decreasing path.

In the experiment as suggested in the paper the electron prefers a push beyond C instead of direct deceleration is because the change in direction causes it to immediately start decreasing potential energy whereas in the case of deceleration the potential energy keeps increasing till the electron comes to rest and reverses direction.

I think the experiment needs to be designed so that in the ambiguous speed zone it tunnels particle above the speed of light instead of decelerating it. I can collaborate with you on that to validate it and make this discovery.
