Hi,

it depends on type of plant residue whether it is pulses or cereals. the CN ratio of pulses is narrow so efficiency is less because of higher mineralization rate but in cereals it is vice versa of pulses.

Some plant residues may contain allelochemicals which can inhibit the activity of nitrosomonas, and affect the nitrification process, thereby can influence nitrogen use effeciency
