If you are in North America, Merritt and Cummings is tops. Another good one is Thorp and Covich. There are some others more outdated.
Keys allowing genus or species level identification will be found in different places for different families.

You can find the keys by reading publications *. For Hemiptera, it will be simple to go to species level. But for Diptera, it is difficult to do it till species level with larvae. But you can find the keys in the books. Now, I work on Diptera but I don't finish to give you other documents on it. Thanks.

Its in Polish but there are many, many keys for diverse groups of insects including Diptera and Hemiptera with drowings and figures
