Can anyone tell me that which one is better for running categorical moderation: Process macro by Hayes or AMOS? I want to write a scientific article, is it necessary to draw a model in Amos? And the results related to the calculation or can the results be reported only with spss?
I think both the Process Macro by Hayes and AMOS can be used for moderation analysis, but they serve slightly different purposes and have distinct strengths.
If your primary goal is to run a categorical moderation analysis and you’re comfortable with SPSS, using the Process macro is efficient and effective. You can report the results directly from the output without needing to draw a model in AMOS.
The most accurate tool to check moderation is SmartPLS software. In Amos, the model is also drawn, but the moderation evaluation is done in separate parts. For this reason, SmartPLS provides more accurate results for each type of moderator with simultaneous processing.

First of all, one should justify why a PLS-SEM approach should be better than a CB-SEM approach. I do not see any striking arguments and there is a huge ongoing debate which one is better, which seems undecided, yet. Therefore, why changing the method in the first place.
If we go back to the original question: if you only have manifest variables then OLS regression (PROCESS is nothing more, but with option for logistic regression) and CB-SEM appraoches like AMOS (or R/lavaan, MPlus etc), i.e. path analyses, will give nearly the same results. If you want to model interactions of latent variables, MPlus seems to be best equipted for it.
Everyone should make a decision based on their own analysis. Why did I say PLS? Because it can answer both moderating models, and it can analyze the model with a class latent variables (level 1 and 2), it has provided the basis for the fitting of the model, it performs group analysis, it performs variance-based analysis, and covariance-based analysis and many other analyzes. With outputs without confusion. SmartPLS version 4 includes all the features of Amos. It is up to the individual to decide with what tools and based on what rules.
