I would be interested by the internal multiple contact interaction and friction between strands.
You can use any FEM software that can solve contact problems given that you want to model the interaction between the strands. Abaqus or Ansys might work for you in this case.A relatively difficult task will be to define realistic friction models at the interfaces.

Dear Sir,
I have a good news for you. Abaqus software is able to solve your problem easily. My recommendation for you is firstly learn how to model conceit which is reinforced with steel bars to get whole idea of similar modeling. Since then, when you feel confident in this sort of modeling, you are able to change the relevant materials. To be more precise, please imagine conceit is strand and steel bars are filaments, with considering friction interactions. Thus try to model it as a deformable solid part and analyze it regarding your boundary condition Now you model a strand which comprises the number of filaments. The next step is copy the modeled strand as much as the steel rope included. Then assembly copied strands and go to interaction module and use friction and tie condition. There you go.

Warning, never use the abaqus version 6.12 due to too many bugs to solve problems in the FEM and FEA.
