For fast identifcation of elements usually an EDX system is better. but in some cases, when the elements are with neighboring Z the fluorescence lines can overlap and an WDS might be better due to its increased resolution.
Since you asked for a fast measurement EDS is certainly the best choice. Could you tell a bit more about the goal of the investigations? As Marcella and Philipp already pointed out, there are applications where speed won't give you a correct answer, and I guess you are interested in a useful signal interpretation. However, WDS is not only better if peaks overlap in EDS spectra, it takes more time since you can only measure one element (so that you realistically need EDS as well to find out which elements are in your samples) it also needs a much higher quality in calibration.
