Cold DRI is stored in Bins and being transported from the Bins vis Vibrating Screens, Electric Feeders, by Belt Conveyors to charge Electric Arc Furnace for making steel. During transportation fines are generated. Hoods are placed on the transfer points and the dust generated are sucked conveyed to a Bag Filter via Duct.
The problem is if it comes into contact with water then re-oxidation happens and during this process CO and H2 is generated with increase in temperature and catches fire. I have decided to purge the duct and Bag Filter by Nitrogen so that the gas mixture remains inactive.
I want to know what will be the threshold value of CO, H2 and O2 (in vol%) and temperature so that it remains inactive and how to calculate the Nitrogen requirement.
