I am planning to apply for PhD program. I am a medical doctor and having MPH major in epidemiology. I am a bit confused about choosing my research are. If anyone can suggest any area.
Choose a topic that is interesting to you which is feasible in your current circumstance. It is also important to get the support of an efficient guide related to your topic and more over adequate funding to cater your research needs.
- Evaluation a public health program, such a screening program
- Analysis of policies relevant to public health
- Testing the effectiveness of a new intervention
- Testing the validity of new tools
- Investigating the epidemiology of a disease
You could start by reading recent research/theses around the general areas of public health and clinical research that you are interested in, to get an idea of the current state of knowledge and possible areas for further research.
It also helps to talk to a mentor/supervisor/advisory committee.
I would suggest issues concerning school children, obesity, changes in life style, and pre-diabetes assessment. You can come up with a number of protocols for your prospect research if you consider two or more of the above-mentioned issues. Good luck in your effort.
In the US, the effect of social media on health of populations (e.g., measles outbreaks) is an interesting area right now. I'm more of a health communications/education person, so I see it primarily through that lens, but there is certainly an epidemiological perspective there as well.
I'm sure there are similar issues outside of the US as well, if that is where you are looking?
Similarly, there's the effect of lack of communication regarding infection outbreaks that could be considered. Check out this article from yesterday: https://nyti.ms/2FYtZ6D

Just like Radhakrishnan Jayakrishnan suggested, you need to look at your environment and choose something that you think is a public health issue that can bring about a transformation if need be. We can only provide suggestions based on what we are passionate about or what is obtainable in our own area. You need to be passion driven about making that inquiry. Doing a PhD is quite tiring and if care is not taken, you loose interest along the way but your passion helps to put you back on track.
I would advise you to look for an area that you are passionate about and do a quick search to identify where your PhD can sit. It is important for you to be passionate about and that will be a driving force for you to keep on going even when you get tired. Someone liken PhD as chewing gum, it is sweet at the beginning but it looses taste as time passes by. You have continue to chew it anyway. Remember you will hang on it for at least 3 years, it will get boring and frustrating. You need a reason to press on and that is your passion on what you do.
You have wide range of research areas in Public Health. Quality of Medical Education in Bangladesh, Infant and young child feeding, doctor-patient relationship, working environment of doctors in Bangladesh, job satisfaction of doctors in Bangladesh, Mental health, Drug addiction, Social media addiction, Trends of change in health & social problems of Bangladesh etc. may be research area in present context of Bangladesh. However, it will depend to a great extent upon your interest, funding agencies and feasibility to the study.
You can focus on non-communicable disease such as mental health. Mental health is an interesting issue to be explored. Focus on screening or risk factor.
Even you can focus on emerging and re-emerging disease. This topic is interesting too. Looking forward to knowing the findings from your thesis.
