I would be very pleased if anyone can suggest me paper for estimating crop production through remote sensing data. I know there are plenty of papers that crop yield has been predicted but I need only for crop production. Your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks very much guys for your support but still need papers that crop production has been predicted instead of crop yield. Basically what I want to see is more papers that crop production (weight) has been predicted and then assessed by comparing to the actual statistical data. I know GPP has been used or predicted for different purposes but my target is predicting crop production using remote sensing data. Thanks
Production has two components, area and yield. Area (planted or harvested) is the tricky part because it is very difficult to map specific crop types during a growing season in most situations, whereas yield potential can be reasonably teased out from general vegetation conditions. Even after the growing season has been completed, mapping errors commonly exceed errors of government crop area estimates or historic crop area variability, so these numbers typically are used as a proxy for crop area, which is then multiplied by the yield estimate to obtain an actual production estimate for a particular crop & region of interest.
This story varies for different study areas, depending on reliability & availability of yield/area/production data (from the government or other sources) and depending on year-to-year variability in where specifically (i.e., in which fields or parcels) the crop of interest is grown in the AOI. Not to mention a whole host of other factors (many related to crop management practices including growing season length and timing) that can complicate the situation, at potentially any and all spatial scales.
Now, with enough in-season ground reference data, that changes the situation markedly, but generally speaking these data are expensive to collect or are not publicly accessible.

Thanks for the nice explanation. As you have mentioned predicting the crop yeild is tricky as in some regions the statistical data are unreliable. In my case I have this problem. I know different approchs and the establishing the relationship between predicted and actual data but as I have said I am working with unrelaiable ground data. Therefore, I have tried and played variuos ways to find the best correlation between vegettion indice's variables and crop yield at the governorate level for each year but it didn't work. The only hope that I have is, there is a good correlation between crop production and spatial accumulation of vegetation indices. As you may be aware that most of the paper report yield instaed of production but in my case I have to report crop production. Asking for more paper in this regard will make my case stronger and can continue with the work but so far only got 2 papers whaich they report crop production.
