Would anyone give their experience regarding feasibility, criteria of selected patients, pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure medications, safety, follow up and outcome?
only in cooperative patients with maxillary sinusitis with patent nasal cavity. multicenter experience has been published recently in AJRA u can get answer for other questions
Dear Dr.Mohannad, Thanks much for your sharing but what about the outcome. Do your patients suffer only of isolated maxillary sinusitis? Would you mention the name of the article & its link.
The procedure is good but the indications are limited. As already pointed out isolated sinusitis affecting one sinus is very rare. I have the personal experience of anout seven cases done under general anaesthesia . In two cases out of these, I did hybrid procedure i.e. Used microdebrider to remove polypoidal mucosa from ostium area. The follow up is quite encouraging. You can see my video on "You Tube".
Balloon sinuplasty is not easy to perform as an office procedure. Only maxillary and frontal sinus ostium can be widened by this procedure. Patients are usually anxious and prefer surgery under general anesthesia.
agree and i will add we found sinuplasty isn't sufficient treatment in case of solitary maxillary sinusitis with polyp, In such case you need wide MMA either to remove the polyp or to allow for topical medication delivery to the sinus.
Saying that sinuplasty may help some patients who cant get GA, or have busy schedule that doesn't allow for recovery
plz google
Role of balloon Sinuplasty in the management of solitary maxillary sinus polyp
Thanks much for all colleagues who shared this interesting topic.. Dear Dr.Surinder, thanks for YouTube clip video, is it in your clinic or under GA as the patient is not visible to know exactly the feasibility & comfortability of the procedure & whether the patient can tolerate it or not.
It can be done in OPD in cooperative pt. but my personal preference is under GA as you you need to irrigate the sinus and patient find it difficult when purulent secretions goes into the throat.
from my expirience ,usually it is not very helpful.I used it for complicated cases of frontal sinusitis.when the anatomy was'nt normal, then it was also dificult to introduse the baloon.
