I have designed and tested a setup for ESD testing according to some of the usual standards using a voltage between 10 kV and 60 kV. The discharge capacitance usually is 500pF in series with a high voltage resistor. It seems like most types of gas discharge tubes have issues, so I decided to use a mechanical discharge switch. The problem is to design this high voltage switch to behave consistently in the circuit. So what is the best solution and design for such a switch?
