I've created a survey to use in my dissertation study. It asks teachers to rank ten factors (1-10) based on their influence on the participants' job satisfaction. The factors included came from the results of a more comprehensive workplace survey (cited in my study). However, the survey I am using, I created. Prior to administering the survey to my sample group, I was asked to have a small pilot group complete it and provide me feedback to help validate the survey. Does anyone have suggestions on questions to ask the pilot group, or steps I should take for this process?
Hey Michael, this is a bit off topic but maybe you may want to consider asking your participants to rate, rather than rank, the ten factors. This will provide you with a lot more information and give you more flexibility in terms of data analysis options. You can always derive ranks from ratings, but not vice versa.

Thanks, Mark. In this study, however, I am not looking to measure their actual satisfaction but instead, which they feel impact them the most.
Hi, if I got you right, you want to conduct a pilot test to find out if your survey instrument will measure what you intend to measure. If that is the case then you should frame open-ended questions first on what participants consider as factors for job satisfaction. Administer to a pilot group and analyze it for the content. If the content is similar to what you intend to include in your actual survey, then that is it. My opinion.
