actually i am doing co-citation analysis in which i am interested in finding the emerging area/ themes in my working topic. in this i want to develop co-citation matrix and later use software to do factor and cluster analysis. But i am bit confused what all data i need ? i am using scopus database in which i know that i need all bibliographic information, citation count information, and other basic details but i am confused regarding references and cited by information. as far i understand core set of articles and its references are sufficient for my software (bibecel) to create co-citation matrix. But few softwares like gephi is suggesting to download , even the details of articles citing my core articles. is this terminology i.e. cited by (as in scopus) same as references or is it something else. because in youtube videos i am finding that for gephi i need to download two files . first is core articles csv file then second is list of articles citing core articles (in csv form) means i need 2 separate files. while if i focus only on bibecel instruction it suggest to download only one file i.e. core articles list (csv form) which itself contains core articles and their references. so can you guide me weather co-citation matrix is based on one file only (as per bibecel) or two files (as per gephi) and what is the underlying logic. is the co-citation pair is among the references or the core articles.
