We are looking for current literature which deals with protests related to the sovereign debt crisis and the austerity measures implemented in the bail out countries. We examine the predictors of political participation, especially protest and petition, in context of the sovereign debt crisis in 19 european countries.

However you should be aware that causality usually is considered to be the opposite: Political factors cause sovereign debt crises.

I don't think that austerity directly causes political instability. Our assumption is, that austerity (in bail-out Countries) causes discontent, especially among the people who were hit hard by the cutbacks of social transfers, and this leads to political protest.
