An anonymous 15th-century novel from Spain titled Lazarillo de Tormes. It is a splendid and rather serious study about beggary and childhood. The novel is extremely famous and really an excellent piece of literature. My bet is that it is translated into the dominant languages. I have it in English in a very good translation.
what do you think is the precise definition of beggary ?
How do differentiate it from other forms of human behavior which are in fact stark outrageous beggary but are camouflaged as social religious or political philanthropy ? religious duty or political responsibility?

when I saw that first text "effect on begging" I did wonder it this work might include "begging the question" which is a phrase wrongly used often, these days. Probably we should all focus on that problem first, and then look to the issue of how it is that nature, abhorring a vacuum as it does, fills every environmental niche with . . . whatever will go there. thus grass grows in cracks of concrete, and . . . complete this sentence in less than 25 words, if you are prepared to be politically incorrect. Bottom line, my friend, is that you are looking at it from the wrong end - if there is a possibility of surviving doing this or that, then there will be those who take up that possibility (nature/vacuum). doesn't matter what psycho/social features you perceive (remembering that your "diagnosis" is inevitably post hoc). if a society will support beggars, then they will arise in just slightly more than the proportion that the given society will provide for - and at this stage Darwinism will explain the outcome. for example in my own city people actually come around the bus/tram stops asking stationary, waiting people for money. I respond "can you sing" because there are also those at the railway station taking advantage of the aucoustics with guitars and voice - and for my part I prefer to support them. Anyhow I make a personal effort to stamp out begging that does not involve singing. and yes, I see that some politically correct people will not want to accept this top down analysis (the niche is there so someone will fill it), but prefer a bottom up analysis by asking the question "what psycho factors are involved here?". all of which begs the question as to the approach we should take to this issue.
