They are from a TEMPORARY STREAM from south Spain. Fixed by ETHANOL
Colonies size 5 a 10mm, mucilaginous colonies floating through Rannunculus vegetation
Cell size around 9-10micras. distributed in 4 celled groups surrounded by a mucilage,with fragments of remains from mother cell wall.

I would say some species of Chroococcus. It seems like this one found in a temporary stream of Ciudad Real. This one was benthonic, though.
Dear Maria,
This one is Chroococcus sp. May be C. turgidus. They usually forms small groups of cells which can be either floating or attached. & their cells are usually between 2-58 μm.
( First, I got confused with your description "Colonies size 5 a 10mm, " ) :)

I know that ethanol is not an addecuate fixer but there were samples from macrophytes (they used formalin but this year they have tried with Kew solution (Alcohol etílico con glicerina y agua)

I agree with Leonardo Mendoza, your material is not a cyanobacteria. It has a well visible plaste, so it could be some green algae. Are you sure that it doesn´t have flagellum? Please, take a look on the group of Volvocales. Good luck, Célia

when i saw the colony i was thinking first in Chlorococcales, because it remains me to coenocystis, Coccomyxa, Gloeocystis..... this kind of things....with rest of the mother cell wall but i don´t kown if they could be as a very big mucilaginous colony, and in streams......

My first impression point to tetrasporales, maybe some kind of Pseudosphaerocystis, Chlamydocapsa or something like these. These spp are usually between the litoral vegetation.

Yes, but they don't have flagella all the time. Remember the iconografy in the book, that we ususally use.

I agree that you should look into Tetrasporales and other palmelloid algae. Though, you may not be able to identify this in fixed state and especially fixed with ethanol. Here are the photos of similar findings in swamp canals in Ukraine. I think, it might be Asterococcus limneticus and Gloeococcus alsius, but I'm not very sure.

For sure you have a pallmeloid stage of some flagellate group. For this reason is difficult to identify. The cells are in rest phase and it is necessary to see the adult cells totally developed. Good luck, Célia Sant´Anna
