Suppose we have capacitors in the line towards the load end to compensate for lagging Kvar...At night time some of the load might be switched off leading to a leading power factor condition in the circuit....Can anyone tell me some ways to work out a circuit in which I can bring v and i in phase when the loads are suddenly switched off and prevent leading pf condition?This has to be at minimum cost...
thanks for reply sir....this is definitely a good method....i want to know one more thing. Can i design a closed feedback loop where there will be a comparator..... When the load will vary, there is bound to be voltage fluctuation....and this will cause V> or < than V reference. The output of the comparator will go to a current/voltage integrator......and this will change the cos phasor to sin phasor or vice versa so as to bring the two quantities in phase. Sicne it also acts as a low pass filter it can also do away with harmonics. Basically talking about a closed loop control system. Thus anytime there is a phase variation the control loop will bring it back to phase and prevent leading pf conditions.
Is this method feasible? If so, do you think in any way this circuit can be improved?....Any formulas you think would be useful please tell....
For practical conditions you may use a parallel highly inductive circuit and connect it to the bus during no-load conditions. You may also use a synchronous condenser. A synchronous condenser is a synchronous motor operated & designed to meet the needs of power factor improvement.

Leading power factor arises in the situation ..where capacitance effect dominates the inductive effect....effect of this is predominant in the application of power electronics in power systems ...i.e in transmission systems....where it is matter of active and reactive powers ......if the load is more inductive ....then reactive power can be compensated by connecting bank of capacitors across the supply in series or in shunt.... or..leading power factor effect can be observed in switching of high capacitive loads..
