An undergraduate has a contaminant growing on her 48-hour nutrient agar. She was supposed to be growing E.coli, but another organism grew and swarmed over her agar plate. I am genuinely interested to know what the growth is. I couldn't seem to figure out from the morphology. Could anybody with experience identify from the picture?
These look like filamentous bacteria e.g. Actinomyces sp, sptreptomyces; if these are overgrowing on e.coli colony,
Agree , but fungi are also possible version. Microscopic observation need to identify this organism. Or, at least the macrograph
I am agree with Azia Ahmed. They look like Actinomyces or sptreptomyces. Seem not to be fungal colony. Fungal colony comprises filamentous hyphae. These two colonies are of two types of bacteria. As Amaria commented, microscopic identifications are important. Please give some microscopic picture.
gram negative, bacilli, some are diplo, while u can see spore through spore staining
