I am currently looking for possible topics for my master thesis.
My master is specialized in Algebra, but during my year abroad I had several lectures in Cryptography and would like to do something in this area.
I really like the the area of elliptic curve cryptography since I find the theory elliptic curves quite beautiful (as far as I know about it), but I am not sure if there are interesting algorithms and topics left in for a thesis that are not too 'well-known' and outdated.
Hence I'd also like to explore a rather unknown and new area of cryptography. So I am also searching for new and current trends in Cryptography.

what about a generalization of the RSA-algorithm for the rings of integers in, say, some number fields? Some years ago 2 students, here in Moscow, had elaborated such a generalization for the rings Z[i] and Z[w] where w=exp(2\pi i/3). The idea, due to prof. Yu. Kuzmin as I know, is not well-known but the work is nice from the algebraic and number-theoretical point of view.
