Being new in the field of climate analysis, you need to be aware of some basic principles of climate analysis and climate modelling.

First, you need to understand the difference between weather and climate. Climate is a statistical description (frequency distribution, average, extremes, etc.) of the weather at a specific place. Typically, periods of at least 30 years have to be considered for climate analyses. In your case, for assessing precipitation during 2050 you need to consider a period of 30 years, like 2035-2065 or 2041-2070.

Second, you are mixing daily averages and monthly averages. The monthly average precipitation of Berlin derived from observations is a bit more than 40 mm (seasonal cycle with maximum in July and Minima in October and February), resulting in a yearly total of about 500 mm. The climate model you used delivered about 3 mm per day, which compares to about 1100 mm per year. Probably you only considered the values for the summer months and averaging the daily values over the entire year would lead to lower values and thus lower annual totals.

Third, climate models typically systematically overestimate observed precipitation totals (= bias). Thus an evaluation of the simulated data using observational datasets is necessary and enables the correction of the bias. Fourth, you should better use the downscaled projections based the RCP-scenarios instead of using the “older” SRES scenarios. Projections of regional climate models for Europe are provided by EURO-CORDEX (http://euro-cordex.net/) at 0.11 und 0.44 degree horizontal resolution.

There are much more aspects that need to be considered, if climate model data are used within impact modelling, but that goes beyond the scope of this discussion.

For anyone new to climate analysis, consulting the IPCC reports (https://ipcc.ch/report/ar5/) is certainly helpful, to get an overview on the methodologies applied in climate change analysis as well as current research topics and results.

Hi make sure you do not mix things. Annual total=sum the daily values of precipitation. How to get the daily values?, do like this, the model gives values in mm/second, take that value*24*60*60. To get monthly average you need to understand how many days in the month for example january has 31 days, therefore if your daily value was 3mm/day in a month 3*31=93mm/month, in a year 3*365=1085mm/year. I suppose you are missing something in your computations but the data you are using are correct

If you want to use prediction data for future, you need to use GCMs. You need to read AR5 (IPCC) to understand many concepts and new findings in related to climate change and climate prediction.

Then, you can use CMIP5 models output under different scenarios (RCP).

Furthermore, you can use weather generator tools, such as Lars-Wg, SDSM, ASD, and KNN-Wg.

These tools can help you to generate future data, but there are some difference between them. For example KNN-WG doesn't use GHG scenarios and it works based on similarity of days in historical data.
