Can anyone explain the function TZSearchHelp() which is in Class TEncSearch.cpp?

I am working on HM-14 reference software written in C++ in Visual Studio 2010. Can anyone explain the function TZSearchHelp() which is in Class TEncSearch.cpp? Since after debugging I have seen that for any pattern diamond or square above mentioned function is use. Also can anyone share link for free HEVC analyzer and tools for bit stream graph plotter for psnr values.
