What specific commercial use are you interested in? With respect to the food industry, gellan gum produced from Pseudomonas elodea (or Sphingomonas elodea) is listed in 21 CFR 172.665 as an ingredient approved for use in the United States for gums, chewing gum bases and similar substances. It is also used in cosmetics as a film-forming, viscosity controlling agent. Medical uses are discussed in this publication. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24657577
