I have grafted Cu(II) on the surface of ZnO nanorod using impregnation technique. Following this, I have dried the sample at 200 degree Celsius. I want to clarify whether Cu-grafted or present in the bulk. What step should I take to confirm its presence on the surface of ZnO rod? can any body suggest me about the reaction of ammonia with copper and after reaction what complex will be formed?

Neutral complexes of Cu2+ and NH4+ require anion(s) to be included, such as OH-, SO42-, etc. You did not disclose such essential information. For instance, for SO42-, one could possibly think at tetraamminecopper(II) sulfate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraamminecopper(II)_sulfate
You can confirm presence of Cu(II)on the surface of ZnO rod using a energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer (EDS) attached to the SEM technique.Also,XPS analysis is helpful.

Thanks for your suggestion. XPS and EDS analysis give information only about the physical presence of metals which could be in any form either doping or grafting onto ZnO. Through these techniques we can not differentiate whether metals grafted or not. Is there any other technique or experiment through which we could detect the grafted nanocluster?
