I want to look at the factors that affects women empowerment in the rice value chain in Ghana. My main concern has to do with the measurement of the variable "Women Empowerment"
I think you cant look at :www.oecd.org/fr/cad/women-developpement or you can see uncdf.org/gfld/docs/session and ww.media.care.oonops.eu/.../2605,CARE_Bangladesh- women empowerment.
How do we measure empowerment? It does not come automatically with education or wealth. He currently full of factors that influence the status of women and its control or autonomy vis-à-vis the decisions of the household.
An index, the Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI,) was launched by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative last year to measure the empowerment of women in agriculture, which takes into account five areas: production, resources, income, leadership and the distribution of the workload. A comparison between men and women can identify where the gap is widening. The index is a number between 0 (no independence) and 1 (empowerment). It was constructed by OPHI Director Sabina Alkire and his colleague Ana Vaz in collaboration with IFPRI and USAID
