Using multivariable statistics works in conjunction with first principle models. The first principle models should be used to guide you to select the truly independent variables,. I have used the following software very successfully on industrial scale polymerization reactors (process). It works. They have a good method to focus in on optimization of a total process. They first determine if the process is capable. many commercial processes are not in control, so they can not be model. Lab processes can have the same issues. Analyzing the Eigen values and removing variables that are not improving the model strength is very powerful. Global models are not as robust as very local models.
