From time to time we have (as reviewer of a scientific paper, or as professor at university) an impression that you have read or seen similar text somewhere before but you are not sure. Can somebody suggest which software (hopefully publicly available and free of charge) is available to make such a check?
I just cut and paste every suspicious sentence into Google and Scholar. I also do the same when the style becomes just too good to be true. A variant on this techniques is to submit the end of one sentence with the beginning of the next sentence, to catch the big fish.
No free, but crossref is integrated in the ScholarOne Manuscripts platform.

iThenticate. It can catch plagiarism in a better way as per my knowledge.
