I am hoping to set up a self marking entrance on managed Bombus terrestris colonies which contains brightly coloured powder paint that will allow identification of managed individuals in the field. The only company I have found in the literature that has been used for this purpose is DayGlo which is an american company and not easy to get hold of their stock in the UK. Has anybody had any experience using a different branded pigment to mark insects with no recorded detrimental effects on behaviour or health/mortality?
