The author of the following Article "Sizing external heat exchangers for batch reactors" Chemical Engineering December 1,1980, Richard J Malone, mentions that his equations for sizing external heat exchangers are based on the steady-state heat load of the exothermic reaction happening in the batch reactor. Can anybody tell me what the steady state heat load of a batch reactor is and how it can be computed? Many thanks.

The heat losses or cooling of the batch reactor = the energy released by the exothermic reaction, hence its steady state until all the reactants are consumed. It could also be that its an equilibrium reaction driven by a removal of the products at a specified rate to drive the reaction.
