Can any one suggest a good application for insulating thin films of metal oxide over glass?

Materials in thin film forms like functional coatings do have applications as antibacterial, solar cell window layers, antireflection etc. Some find them useful in sensors if they have the desired conductivity. Is there any other prospective applications?
