In the case of Co,Cu,Mn and iron just add them (Metal salt) with salen or salphen ligand using methanol as a solvent and i can get the schiff base product. but i am unable to get the product when i am using Ruthenium (RuCl3.xH2O). i have prepared Co(III) schiff bases also , in that the axial ligand is methanol(solvent). if it possible kindly help me to get the procedure for synthesis of Ru(II)/Ru(III)-schiff base complex using methanol as a solvent.
Is it necessary to insist on methanol solution? Reaction can be carried out from a solution of absolute alcohol under reflux. Continue to concentrate the solution. If you get a gelatinous product, treat it with ether or similar solvents. I think the product from the methanol solution can be obtained, than proceed as above. Regards!
