this is a simulated moving bed process with a large number (24) of fixed beds and a rotary valve (or a large number of ordinary valves) that changes the position of the feed to each bed every minute or two to the next position to simulate a moving bed. For example The last P-X adsorption bed becomes the first desorption bed, the final desorption bed becomes the first adsorption bed etc there is a good article from Boughton in Chemical Enineering Progress (Vol 66 no 9 Sept 1970) that I can't find a link to.
