Usually, a compact tension test is employed to determine the fracture toughness of a composite laminate consisting of a pre-developed notch/crack. Can we use the simple tension test on an unnotched rectangular composite specimen to determine its fracture toughness, as the area under stress-strain curve till fracture represents the modulus of fracture of the material. This fracture toughness will be representative of the fiber fracture aligned to the loading axis.
