Can I ask how to calculate the error for grain size calculation by both methods Scherer or Stokes and Wilson (integral breadth)?
The calculation of the Scherrer is only for spherical particles, first you have to make corrections for decrease the error associated with the geometry.
peak broadening in XRD is not just because of crystallite size but also because of non uniform strain so it provides a lower bound on crystallite size not the exact crystallite size. its error doesnot mean that much.
As Sachin points out, there is more than one mechanism that contributes to XRD line broadening. Strain broadening is the major one to consider and difficult to quantify. Also, the top end of the technique is limited to about 100 nm so larger material isn't seen, even if present. Diffuse lines are always difficult to quantify even with (say) the quartz standard present. You need a range of techniques to help you understand the material.
