From what I understand, Brain-Computer Interaction similar to GUI or VUI. Except for the method of input is characterized as a direct output from the brain. My question is would a method of EMG based control be BCI or HCI?
From what I find most BCI research delves in the realms of EEG, MEG, and Motor imagery. Would EMG be considered under the wider scope of HCI because it is not a signal of intention but activation?

From what I have seen EMG can be considered as part of BCI. This is because BCI pertains to neurological signals only, and HCI does not have to be neurological. Hope that helps.
Yes I agree with that! That is a big difference between HCI and BCI! But I was wondering, I would like to combine these two big sectors, HCI and neuroscience, in the field of BCI, but I cannot find the common features or the idea from where to start the research. Do you have an idea??

How I see it, the connection between BCI and HCI is the translation of the neurological signal in each phase of its cycle. Where the phases are Intention, Activation, and Actuation. Intention is read from the brain (EEG). Activation is read from the muscles (EMG), and actuation is the physical motion of the muscles.
I would suggest searching on Research Gate, or Google Scholar for "combined HCI BCI". There is some research into the integration of the two interfaces for stroke rehabilitation.
