In the last couple of months, we have seen an explosion in the blockchain technology mass media coverage, which surged the value of the great majority of crypto currencies worldwide.
I am not interested in the speculation side of this market, but more in the distributed de-centralised system that blockchain provides.
Applications of blockchain is wide, but still, only a few of geospatial examples are found on the internet.
Are you aware of, or can you imagine, a good geospatial application that runs on blockchain?
ps: avoid the public parcels ledger (register) example, that is the most obvious, I am looking for originality.

I am not sure if geospatial network services and block chains are related. I suspect yes.
At present what is marking a new tendency in geoinformation is the development of GIS web servicies, specially focused on process of high demand and processing power. The idea is to use cluster processing power by standards like OGC WCS and others. Other very important component is data availability by open science and open government policies that permits to access a hugh amount of data.
I think block chain can be part of a management and physical important infrastructure for the next generation of geoinformation tools.

The web GIS side of the geospatial industry is becoming more and more important and keeping all the infrastructure working on the internet is vital for many geospatial application. Basically, cluster-processing might be used to process big data. Something like google did with street view imagery and computer vision algorithms to extract business names and type.
I completely agree with the open data availability and data distribution.
One blockchain-based geospatial application might be something in that way. But still, I might lack the fundamental IT basis for understanding blockchain potentials and, subsequently, see possible applications in the geospatial world.
How blockchain might enhance the opennes of geospatial data?
