Hi all,
I am performing a right jugular catheterization to insert a probe. Although I do get success, however in 50% cases I get to see heavy bleeding after I have inserted the probe after a certain distance.The probe is glass rounded tipped and does not have sharp edges.
I am bit puzzled to understand what might be causing the heavy bleeding. Thnaks for any suggestion.

The glass probe is a pressure sensor that needs to go into the thoracic cavity through the jugular to record thoracic pressure/breathing. The sensor is 5mm long and the thickness is almost the as much as the inner diameter of the vein. S, the probe can be easily inserted into the vein.

I'm not sure, but You shuld try to do Z suture with less presure than normal, just to stop bleeding and remove immediately after procedure.

Animal studies? In human, clinical situations, I find that insertion of the scalpel into the vein is a common reason for bleeding around a cordis or triple lumen catheter.

My entire response did not post.
The use of a dilator/introducer with a puncture a size smaller than your probe size will minimize leakage. The introducer is torn away after insertion of the probe, this causes the puncture site to close around the probe.
If this is not available, the use of a figure 8 suture will cinch the area down around your probe.
