Have someone perform bioaugmentation of anaerobic digestion with native microbes? How to perform bioaugmentation of anaerobic digestion of plant biomass?
Since I had such experimental research when prepared my PhD thesis, I noticed that native archaea found in intestines of ruminant animals (I used cattle manure) were very efficient as inoculum for the anaerobically decomposition of plant biomass, specifically maize. and wheat pulp. However, when used sewage sludge rich in activated micoorganisms, the biogas yield was higher for the same substrate. My research result got 10 yr ago is in agreement to the results exposed in the article below. But the practical and cost effective solution to be adopted depends on the inoculum availability too. For many small applications, bioaugmentation with native archaea from ruminants could be the best choice.
