How can I calculate the properties of a woven composite?
Considering that for a unidirectional we can use rule of mixture, is there any similar relation or equation that can be used to calculate mechanical properties of a woven composite?
You don't have to use the simplistic rules of mixtures which have to rely on a host of assumptions. You can use TexGen4SC to obtain complete set of thermoelstic properties for any woven microstructures. The code can be freely launched in the cloud at https://cdmhub.org/resources/texgen4sc.
TexGen4SC can deal with general weave patterns and compute the homogenized properties. Our recent paper has shown that different weave patterns (plain, twill, harness satin and 3D orthogonal etc.) can be solved within the same modeling framework (Liu, X.; Rouf, K.; Peng, B.; and Yu, W.: "Two-Step Homogenization of Textile Composites Using Mechanics of Structure Genome," Composite Structures, vol. 171, 2017, pp. 252-262.). This is an advantage of using TexGen4SC along with MSG theory that the method is not restrict to specific weave pattern.
