Hello. I need to avoid using solder balls simulating a case in HFSS (2 signal vias and 1 gnd via) . I do not want to use de-embedding option (when having solder ball) -to subtract it s effect- because it's been proved to me it is not accurate. I have used a hollow circle (Lump port) touching signal via from its inner side and touching antipad from the outer side ; but I think this way the ports are rather big. Any suggestions how to define ports in this case?
With my little experience, I would suggest you one and only one procedure by which guaranteed error free results will come. Then tune your design to achieve the optimize results.... This procedure is very simple... Just draw your EM object as per practical scenario. For example, use SMA connector to give the excitation instead of using virtual concept wave port or lumped port... etc...This procedure will take 10% extra time initially, but results will be authentic... I follow this procedure
