The beam width of a sector antenna in 5G can be as high as required for three sectors antenna system or 6 sectors antenna systems. For spatial multiplexing in massive MIMO it is required that the array has the ability to focus the the radiation of the array to a specific user. In case of muliusers occupying different azimuth locations one needs to narrow the beam such that the adjacent beams should not overlap. This requires that the antenna array must have even smaller beam angles. In fact in the limit it is required that the beam be very narrow like a pencil beam. In this case one can multiply the bandwidth with a large factor leading to huge increase in the achieved bit rate per cell.
