Moussaoui Abdellah Moussaoui, Successful academic research in my country may be viewed and valued very different in other cultures and countries and, also, vary by institution. Especially with regard to promotions and professional standing. I don’t know Algerian custom or academic norms. Please accept my comments as a representation of how I design and conduct my “local” research activities.
Question everything. Especially your own ideas and any conclusions you form. I think of design of research as a way to learn what the question(s) is versus the answer. In addition, I suggest our questions and answers be viewed as our “best” at a moment in time. They change. They should change too. Expect that. My hope is my research design show me more unknowns than knowns. Expect to work (endlessly) developing an ability to analyze and use tools in innovative ways. This leads (hopefully) to new insights and alters our assumed answers. And more change.
Dedicate yourself to a life of learning and learning how to learn and how to rigorously test and refine the answers you obtain. At its best research offers insight into the next question. Lastly, as best you can in an academic research community, follow your own sensibilities.
Use the scientific method.1. Develop an hypothesis (one or more) relevant to a significant research question.2. Examine the relevant literature. 3. Gather data relating to the question (qualitive and or quantitative). 4. Confirm, revise or reject your original hypothesis (es). 5. Restate the research question and discuss the results.
