Dear Raykov. First let me congratulate you and your team for this brilliant and important project. I'm interested in proposing a chapter based on sustainable and selective fishing methods, namely freediving spearfishing if it is, of course, within the scope of your book.
Many thanks for this excelent project and open invitations,
Dear Joao, thanks for your appreciation. Please, feel free to send trough the system of IGI Global your chapter proposal within 2-3 pages (idea) for our consideration.Best wishes and success!
Hello Friends. I might propose a chapter in fisheries ecology/management, either relevant to our area (Med-Black S.) or of worldwide interest (see: my chapter on marine farming (1) in the last "Ocean Yearbook"). But, I think, I'd need some more information on the general character/purpose and scope of the book, incl., title, other planned chapters, etc.
Dear Menakhem, pls feel free to propose (2-3 pages) chapter proposal regarding not only Black Sea but worldwide experience too.
Objective of the Book
The entire book is aiming to give an innovative fisheries management perspective. It is clear that the marine living resources are overexploited and the development of risk management system must be considered a "matter of emergency" task. Systems theory gives a number of opportunities to be implemented in the decision making processes. The technologies on their side introduce a number of software products - engineering, mathematical and many other which might be used as a tool in data analysis. It is obvious that the thorough analysis of the details in the decision making can generate very clear corrective measure, however it is still not a guarantee that once it is implement we will get the desired result. The system modeling will give not only a given corrective measures, but also a comprehensive system approach which will allow the authorities to standardize and define a schemes a measures packages to be easily adapted to ensure sustainable management on all the possible levels. The authors will also try to standardize the computerize modeling, so that it could be well adapted to other areas of interest once a complex management task is defined and authorities identify the need of system approach as a solution.
Management of the marine resources is the main which will be in the scope of the book.
Dear Violin, I'm now glad I asked. You see, I'm a "patented" critic of the prevailing fisheries science that's focused on software/math.models treatment of data, samples and information collected at sea, but only those stemming from fishing. The problem is that the models applied are oblivious of the serial and sporadic climatic fluctuations affecting yields and stock biomass, as well as of all the non-fishing factors, and on the top of it are single-species based, which of course neglects the so complex ecosystem inter-relations. The results are very much approximate, where not fallacious at all, although the managers are presented with ridiculously exact figures. Like several of international collegues, I published quite a bit on this subject, the latest was an article in the most recent issue of INFOFISH INTERNATIONAL (FAO), entitled "West not always the best".
So, now you know quite well what I'd be writing about. If this doesn't fit the spirit of the planned book, it'd saves us time and effort, if you'd let me know.
Dear Menakhem, I am also glad to share with you your important thoughts regarding the options for management and factors affecting the complex system.I also agree with you about the gaps and misleading advice produced more often in lack of sufficient knowledge or / without accounting the environmental or other than fishery forcing to the ecosystem. Of course, the idea of the book is to serve in support filling those gaps, as the proposed objective was aiming to develop alternative models based on our own experience in the years spent on board and experimental work done. If you wish to develop a chapter based on critical review on the existent methods and models - analysis of the management as a whole, as a critical review, proposed strategy, comparing the models and examples worldwide you proposal is more than welcome. Keep in touch and success in your future work!
Hi Violin, thanks. Alright, p-se, let me know your deadline, I'll see if I can do it and let you know. You may correspond directly with me at [email protected].
Dear Joao, the number of proposals almost reached its limit and we are very keen to put your idea into the proposal's set. Kindly, send your idea (2-3 pages) for editors considerations asap.Thank you!
Dear Violin, i want to contribute a papers to your new book. A topic about fisheries economic (bioeconomics, supply & demand, optimal price, eetc). Can i contribute ?
Dear Nababan,Nice to hear from you.Thank you for the interest. We are now at the stage of reviews. If you are able to prepare the chapter within 5-6 days according to the template (attached) it would be nice. We will then ask you to propose 2 reviewers ready to make the necessary review trough the IGI Global system (http://www.igi-global.com/submission/chapters/) in short terms.I encourage you to prepare chapter with not less than 12 thousand words. Figures must be in tiff format separately from the text.In case you are agree, please do not hesitate to contact me
