I request all the colleagues in RG forum, to comment to this social dilemma prevailing almost in all the societies across the world, I suppose. This very concerned problem is “telling a lie” in our daily life, while we know in all the schools of thoughts, this attitude is condemned.

I do not agree with the practice of 'telling a lie'. I consider this practice as unethical. I prefer 'utter' reality than 'seeming' reality, independently of my own benefit.

Telling a lie for first time is very difficult. This is applicable to us as well as for others (all levels, ages, gender etc).
Generally, the term "lie" carries a negative connotation, and depending on the context a person who communicates a lie may be subject to social, legal, religious, or criminal sanctions. In certain situations, however, lying is permitted, expected, or even encouraged. Believing and acting on false information can have serious consequences. Therefore, scientists and others have attempted to develop reliable methods for distinguishing lies from true statements.

Yes some times, when we lie for the sake of good, we tend to move to a dilemma as to whether we did right or wrong!!!
The reasons people lie include:
- To take what is not rightfully theirs
- To escape accountability
- To create a fantasy/false self-esteem to escape their mundane life
- To avoid punishment
- To inflict pain
- To feel better in the moment; to “steal” admiration
- To gain advantage to exploit others

Lies - assertion certainly does not correspond to the truth and expressed in such a way deliberately.
In everyday life, a lie is called willful transmission of factual and emotional information (verbally or non-verbally) in order to create or maintain in the other person's belief that he believes the transmitting untrue.

For Lie, their should not remain any water tide compartment & even if one follows the even partial lie sooner or later the same is bound to be exposed .

For every human beings lie in any form is not a healthy practice .For this in order to avoid any harm we have to cultivate our faith within us . As we all know our faith may all the time a message of within for our action .
Our inner voice offers a right code of conduct & fruitful guideline & for our lie even if it is not acceptable we should accept as a necessary evil .
In certain cases it is very likely that in our life we may receive unexpected result where we have to accept the will of God & our confidence in our faith .
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.

Telling a lie is like doing the wrong thing & lead to doing more things wrong - because lie telling will trigger a chain effect whereby you need to tell more lies to cover the earlier lies. However, confessing & repenting from telling lies are doing the things right whereas telling the truth is always doing the right thing because honestly is the best policy.

We have discussed this issue recently in another thread. In certain situations, the act of not telling the truth may be morally justified to avoid causing harm to others or ourselves. Outside of these particular situations, little lies are part of our human nature and I think we should not worry too much about that. In my view, lying is an immoral habit when it is used as a systematic strategy to cause harm to others

Partially, I agree with you, What I meant by putting up this question is the life-devastating power of "telling a lie", that is going on and on. Meanwhile, we should remember that "SEA IS CREATED BY DROPLETS". Little lies swell up into bigger ones.

I do not agree with 'telling a lie' even so if you are joking. However, lie may be accepted for me for some cases, for example, as in mathematics, we have proof by contradiction (say something wrong to approve the true).
I disagree with Pierlorenzo, and I'd like him to give us an example about who lie save lives or avoid suffering to people. This is because in all religion, God told us not to lie but God didn't say "don't lie except for ......"
In my local language, there is a saying that can be literally translated as ''a liar and a thief are brothers''. Both work hand-in-hand. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Honesty is a rare virtue. I do not support lies.
I think that the clever person dose not use lies in his/her life because he/ she will lose the credibility..losing the credibility will cause for him/her a lot of problems in social or scientific life.
In my life, when I facing somebody using lies, I dont trust him at all, and behave carefully.
Telling a lie is common practice and everybody tells in some or other cases, but the persons who consider it unethical faces dilemma after telling a lie. No need to say that a lie creates a series of lies. I agree with Esraa Ali that it result in losing credibility.
Some scholars justify it on the ground of grave need or saving life etc. Hindu mythology permits to tell a lie in such circumstances.

It is very difficult for a person to be objective in estimating the good and the damage that his or her lies will produce. We have a vested interest in the lies we tell and an equally vested interest in believing that the things will be better if we lie from one instance to the next. Some people lie to make themselves look good or to get what they want, and others because they actually believe what they're saying. Either way, confronting the liar is a good place to start dealing with his or her bad behavior. It's important to remember that you don't have the power to change someone else in the end, all you can do is tell the truth yourself.

Lies in the field of scientific research is definitely unethical. When it comes to research it is essential to always tell the truth, good or bad it is. For what concerns the daily life is different. In everyday life, sometimes for the common good of all or of someone it is better to lie. Who among us all has never lied? Who he has never lied must remember that a compliment to a woman or a man is often (almost always) "a lie dressed up at feast".
Common sense to humans pay to tell the truth and get away from the lying, so the normal human facing a very big problem when he thinks of lying.
