On this issue I have a paper on the dispersal of parasitoids as a result of the parasitoids detecting foraging hyperparasitoids via semiochemicals acting as a kairomone produced by the hyperparasitoids: Holler et al (1994) Experientia 50,182-185. We stopped work then when Carsten Holler became an Installation artist, now extremely famous as such, but have started this work again re increased ecosystem services.Very best wishes, John Pickett

As far as I know, only little is known on parasitoid dispersal and how this is influenced by plant biodiversity. I am just starting a project to investigate how the presence of different plant species influences parasitoid dispersal and host detection under field conditions. I found one interesting paper on this topic: Bezemer et. al 2010: Behaviour of male and female parasitoids in the field: influence of patch size, host density, and habitat complexity. I'm also interested in the topic, so will look for those papers. we are testing several parasitoid spp to suppress 2 pest aphids in protected raspberry (polytunnels), in combination with biopesticides and added aphid-resistant varieties.

I published one paper dealing with dispersion of Metaphycus helvolus (Encyrtidae) many years past, into citrus fields and macchia vegetation of Eastern coast of Corsica, calculating rate of dispersion and parasited hosts on citrus and on wild plants of macchia. there are few papers about foraging / dispersion of Venturia canescens in the field. For instance: 

- Desouhant et al (2003) Dispersal between host populations in field conditions: navigation rules in the parasitoid Venturia canescens. Ecological Entomology 28: 257-267

The authors of this paper also published studies related to flight and foraging of parasitoids if you are interested in these topics.

Dear Dr. Franco, I published one paper on dispersion of Metaphycus helvolus released on 1 tree into one citrus orchard (clementine) in a zone of citrus cultivation (Experimental Research Station of Citriculture, San Giuliano, Corsica). During one season, the parasitoid was searched in all direction from the release-tree. It was found till to macchia (= finbos) widespead at South to south-east of the Experimental Station. Scale-insects (Coccidae family: mainly Saissetia oleae, Coccus hesperidum; but too other Coccidae living on wild plants) parasitised by helvolus are named in the paper. Sincerely yours.
