Mario Mikulincer and Phillip Shaver have an entire chapter on that topic in their 2007 book (http://www.amazon.com/Attachment-Adulthood-Structure-Dynamics-Change/dp/1606236105). They are currently working on the 2n edition.
My colleague Dr Marta Karbowa wrote her PhD thesis on this topic exactly: "Validity of the methods of assessing attachment in adulthood". Check out the English part of the abstract:
"There were four methods used: Attachment Questionnaire – ECR, Attachment Interview, Closeness Questionnaire, Closeness Interview. Attachment Interview, which diagnoses attachment state of mind, appeared to be the most valid metod. Attachment Questionnaire – ECR turned out to be the least valid, both when convergent and divergent aspect of validity is taken into account. These findings reveal that the two analysed dimensions anxiety and avoidance have conceptually and operationally something in common with the concept of closeness. This way of conceptualizing individual differences in attachment, as proposed by Brennan, Clark and Shaver (1995) needs to be revised as in the current shape it rises reasonable doubts when it comes to its validity."
