Governments are investing extensively in ICT training. One of my research questions will measure the cost effectiveness of this investment.
The purpose of education is to prepare learners for life, hence the need for lifelong education. When we employ ICT in teaching, we use ICT as a model for delivery as well as equipping learners with ICT skills to prepare them for the world of employment . The employment landscape has evolved and continue to evolve technologically. Therefore, if we are using ICT for teaching and learning and applying ICT education, to learners basically we are preparing the next generation for employment in the new world order.
Therefore at the end of the day it depends with what is practically happening on the ground.
Dear Samuel. Your response is too good for words. I need one more help: how should I measure the implementation of ICT for future employability? Your guidance is requested because I am quite new in research field.
Most jobs nowadays, and I am sure future jobs, will depend on the use of ICT, the Horizon report 2017 published by the New Media Consortium https://www.nmc.org , provides good information regarding the trends in education and ICT, I strongly recommend you start by checking the publication. Educational institutions that do not provide enough ICT training are harming their students. In my own experience many students who receive a graduate diploma lack the basics of computer skills.
Our forthcoming 'The Global School - Education in the Time of Digitisation' distinguishes between 'education', which has nothing to do with the world of work, and 'training' which of course has. It also distinguishes between piecemeal ICT applications, which are often dysfunctional distractions, and 'digitisation' which involves a wholehearted transformation. More later!
