From global finance and markets to climate change we are constantly told that we must look to the welfare of future generations. According to our politicians and protest groups alike austerity now means a better future for those to come. Is it not more morally acceptable that those elected to lead us consider the welfare of those living right now before the welfare of those yet unborn?

We are endowed the resources and what we have Today are the generous contributions of our forefathers Yesterday.
We will have to endeavour to regive the resources and knowledge to our off-springs who are going to be the generations of Tomorrow.

Of course we responsible for the future general as far as our activities are concerned which are being undertaken for our own comfort and luxury. We must keep in mind that whatever nonrenewable energy resources we have been endowed by nature have to utilised by following the principal of sustainable development. We are part of the nature and we should protect and preserve it for the future generation.
When we speak of "future generations", we have to define it and its relevance to us personally, our family, our community and the world. We and those we care for must have a stake to it. If, in today's society, one is already deprived, must s/he be concerned of the future? An owner of vast properties and businesses would definitely have an interest in the future, and he really must be concerned of the "future generations" to ensure the continuation of his empire.
We are responsible to fix the damages inflicted to the living environment. Probably the worst case would be the damage to the ozone layer. The Earth took some 3 billion years to form the ozone layer, but took only 50 years of our activities to partly destroy it. It needs to be fixed so that future generations could survive on the surface of the Earth.
If the welfare of those living right now is well taken care of, I believe it will propagate/disseminate to the future generations and becomes a way of life. Lets bear in mind the coming generations somehow inherit our way of life, hence if we are not living well in the now then sustainability is doomed.
